Bruntwood SciTech

Centre City Birmingham

We’ve recently completed works within another remarkable redevelopment for our client Bruntwood Scitech.

On this occasion, the location was Birmingham and the redevelopment of Centre City, a building originating from the 1960’s. And similar to other recent projects we have undertaken for the same client (West Village & Foundation), our focus has been the installation of HYVERT and planting displays, both internal and external to the newly developed communal areas including green atrium/cafe and meeting rooms

Entrance Appeal

Approaching the development there are three unique HYVERT+ walls; two flanking the entrance externally and the third situated internally upon immediate entrance to the building.

The internally located HYVERT benefits from a specialist lighting rig to boost the lighting level to 4000 Lux, which is key to the successful health of this vertical urban green infrastructure.

Wellbeing-focussed

Adorning the centre of the building is an impressive vast atrium creating Centre City’s main communal hub profusely populated with a mix of high and low level planting displays.

With multiple custom made joinery details now filled with layers of tropical planting such as Aspidistra, Croton, Lyrata, Monstera, low level Muehlenbeckia, Strelitzia, Zamio and more.

We also planted an eclectic mix of artificial trailing plants into high level troughs attached to steel framework.

Artificial Scindapsus, Ferns and Ivy enhance and frame the space beautifully.

In addition, another a unique design feature is the installation of twenty-two columns standing approximately a metre in height.

Each column designed to be the stage for holding a plant so for extra focal interest, we used a variety of containers including terracotta and cream or grey coloured ceramics each planted with low level/trailing live plants such as a Scindapsus and Hoya.

Professional Plant Aftercare

In future, our elevated aftercare technicians will take care of the HYVERT living walls and our dedicated interiors team will regularly maintain the rest of the installation scheme.

Centre City now provides a beautiful new flexible workspace in Birmingham and we're delighted to have played our part.
