The Bull Henley-on-Thames

The Bull Henley-on-Thames

The Bull (on Bell Street), Henley-on-Thames was already full of charm since the building dates back to the 15th century! However, it closed for major refurbishment early Spring in readiness for a fabulous re-launch at the beginning of May and we were delighted to be a part of this amazing transformation. What made the project more rewarding for us was the fact that not only did we install the 'green' finishing touches, we helped design the whole scheme too.Our Design Director, Jessica travelled down to The Bull to meet their Management Team on more than one occasion to ensure that vision became reality.

Stepping inside The Bull, the Botanical theme is evident at every turn; wallpaper upholstery and of course plants. The conservatory had artificial Jasmine and Ivy greenery attached to the vaulted glass ceiling beams. And large statement plants in pots such as Monstera and Areca Palm were interspersed throughout. Also large statement plants in pots such as Monstera and Areca Palm were interspersed throughout.

The Bull's visitors, are now greeted by two beautiful custom-made raw ghostwood and rose trees as they arrive; the first forms an archway externally, above the pub's main entrance doors and the second nestles into a corner within the pub's internal entrance area.

Both were built on-site by out Technicians to ensure perfect fit.

A profusion of artificial plants in pots were positioned throughout the pub, upon shelves, fireplaces and even books.

A further custom made tree was built within the dining area, this time, using white artificial Viburnum, replica foliage and a mixture of ghostwood and natural manzanita wood, giving a canopy spread of 3sqm.

Booth seating was given the plant treatment too, in the form of artificial Ficus Lyrata, Palms and Philodendron.

The internal refurbishments at The Bull are only half the story; the latter half belongs to the newly created idyllic Courtyard Dining Area.

With space for around 100 diners and a retractable roof, it's a stunning alfresco option for lucky locals and visitors.

The Botanical theme ever present by way of live and artificial plants in pots, a further custom made 'Olive' tree and trellis climbing plants.

And our Design Director Jessica innovatively suggested re-purposing surplus metal lampshades into suspended containers for artificial Ferns - looking fantastic!

The live planting scheme included Portuguese Laurel, Nandina Domestica and Rosemary, all planted into various coloured aged terracotta containers along with four 2m tall multi-stem Osmanthus trees in stunning containers with additional live planting to the base.

There were more than sixty terracotta pots used as part of the artificial planting scheme, placed together in long/short/double-height formations and planted with some very life-like White and Pink Hydrangeas along with Pittosporums, Begonias and Aspleniums.

To the rear Courtyard wall, a mirror flanked by sage green trellis was dressed with artificial French Ivy, Skimmia, White Clematis and trailing Ivy, providing yet another beautiful place to relax and dine.

Curb appeal guaranteed thanks to pretty window boxes filled with UV treated artificial trailing Ivy and Fern foliage and artificial Pink Hydrangeas to the first floor and trailing UV foliage to the ground floor - as well as an arch-shaped bespoke rose tree around the double entrance doors.

It took four I Want Plants Technicians, three days to complete this job and from design through to installation, we've loved it all!

In a fabulous location, a venue already bursting with historic character and an opportunity to deliver a variety of services; Custom Installations, Custom Made Trees and Live Green Infrastructure.

With Henley Regatta just around the corner, it couldn't be better timing.

Thank you to Honeycomb Houses and their Parent company, Brakspear for instructing us on this project.
