West Village Leeds

We were proudly appointed by Robertson Group on behalf of Bruntwood SciTech to work on the redevelopment and transformation of West One Estate in Leeds into 'West Village', an innovative new workspace offering flexible office/coworking.

West Village also includes the creation of a brand new 4-storey extension designed by 3DReid which is architecturally both curved and convex in its shape. A large part of our project involvement included the exciting opportunity to install a HYVERT Living wall which wraps and mirrors the curved shape of the building in the exact same way.

Wellness

Wellness is prioritised at West Village and this is reflected in the lush biophilic led design evident both externally (HYVERT) and internally via the use of natural materials, products and colours along with an abundance of beautiful live plants, trees and artificial plants.

A custom installation project of epic proportions where besides roof terrace plants/trees and the installation of a HYVERT Living wall with bespoke rainwater recirculation system, our internal project scope was equally immense!

HYVERT Rainwater recirculation system

Environmentally Bespoke Design

For HYVERT West Village, a large focus was also placed on developing and implementing a low cost Smart water harvesting and recycling system to reduce it's potable water usage (with a remuneration period between 2-3 years).

The Smart watering system can manage 14.3% of the property's surface water, equivalent to an estimated 960,000L of water per year and harvested/recycled water would provide 50-60% of the building's WC water usage, equivalent to utilities savings of £4-6k per year.

West Village also includes a new blue-green roof which along with HYVERT will achieve storm water attenuation meaning the flood risk is reduced by collecting and slowing down rainwater travelling into surface level drains.

The surface water band can then be changed to reduce utilities costs.

West Village has already been awarded an EPC 'A' rating for the retrofit and new build.

Biophilic Bliss

Visiting for the first time and having already made a 'green' impact with West Village's exterior, first impressions upon entering the workspace are equally breathtaking!

Working closely with Cubic Works and architects and designers, 3DReid, our talented design and custom installation teams successfully delivered on all the 'green' design facets required for the incredible interior too.

Plants, trees, feature moss walls

The scope of our involvement internally was mainly to the communal entrance foyer, extensive two-tiered lounge, cafe shop/kitchen areas and also a state-of-the-art wellness studio.

Taking advantage of the high ceiling space, three stunning custom made corten steel pots were planted with 4.2m tall Bucida Buceras trees with bark top dressing and base planting too.

More commonly known as 'Shady Lady', Bucida Buceras trees can grow up to twenty metres tall!

Live plants were planted into client's custom made troughs built into steps and booth seating areas or into a mixed range of our textured lava and rusted pots. These were then positioned throughout the communal areas either singularly or in clusters creating additional 'green' focal points.

Live plants varieties included Yucca, Aspidistras, Strelitzia, Palms, Philodendrons and more - all varying in height.

And replica plants such as Philodendron, Cymbidium and Fern were planted into high level troughs where live varieties would be unreachable during plant aftercare visits.

Another spectacular feature installed was a preserved 'reindeer' moss wall measuring some 17 sqm, this was a tailored design to accommodate client's feature lighting.

40360

plants and trees

This was the staggering total number used to help transform West One Estate into Bruntwood Sci-tech West Village.

And in keeping with Bruntwood Sci-Tech's increased sustainability pre-requisites and goal for West Village to become 'the most sustainable business destination in Leeds', the plants and trees besides their beauty, will collectively be helping to reduce water wastage, improve air quality, improve energy performance, increase wellbeing and biodiversity levels within a dense urban location.

What an amazing new flexible work/community space in Leeds!
