All The ‘B’s – BruntwoodWorks : Biodiversity : Bees
One of the great things about BruntwoodWorks is having the opportunity to participate in regular lunch hour activities. These are known as ‘Community Workshops’ and vary from one week to the next.
And at the beginning of March at BruntwoodWorks West One workspace in Leeds, we had the fab opportunity of leading one of these Workshops – demonstrating how to create Bee-Hotels.
Our workshop explained the vitally important role that Bees play as pollinators in helping to protect our eco-system.
They’re a threatened species and creating a safe space in the form of a Bee-hotel for both bees (and other insects) is a great way of boosting biodiversity.
The ‘hotel’ framework was created using sustainable materials left over from our past projects and the attendees at the workshop then added their own fixtures, using slats and bamboo.
There was also time for a spot of planting in the form of some pretty Kalanchoes to brighten up the indoors too.
The workshop was great fun, we’ve had some lovely feedback already and the attendees have all agreed to send us photos later this year of their hotels in situ – hopefully complete with ‘guests’ too.
